This self-titled album has a very classic country feel. It has a very nostalgic sound to it. Billy Hubbard is a Tennessee based musician. Though this is his debut album, he is no stranger to the music industry. He was a regional director for A&R and then in 2023 he signed with Spectra Music Group to pursue a music career of his own. He has also worked with many Grammy winning artists before and even worked with some on this album.
Hubbard has a very smooth voice that is very comforting when listening to this album. This album sounds like it could reach the top of country charts due to its great production and beautiful melodies. The songs are a collection of unpublished songs written over the span of 40 years and have finally been brought to life. They touch on classic love stories and the trials and tribulations of any relationship which make these songs very relatable.
This album has a wonderful mix of feel good upbeat songs like Mighty Low and Castin’ Away My Blues, that just make you want to dance the blues away, if you will. Then there are also some soulful ballads like When I Look Into Your Eyes and Civil War Letters that make you want to hold your loved ones close.
One of my favorite parts of this album is the song Goodbye Waltz which is the last song on the album. Not only is this song beautiful and filled with love, but the story behind it is one that is quite meaningful. This song is dedicated to his mother and based on a phone conversation he had with her before she unexpectedly passed. His mother, Arlene Hubbard, had a beautiful music career as well in the band “Tennessee Pardners”. The song features and showcases her vintage Gibson mandolin. The song is truly written from Billy’s heart and takes you on a journey of saying goodbye to a loved one which is something that everyone will be able to relate to.
This debut album of Billy Hubbard’s is a true country masterpiece that has been decades in the making. Now that Billy has stepped into the limelight himself, he can show his immense talent and passion for creating music that connects to people. Billy Hubbard is inspiring and shows us that it is never too late to pursue your dreams.
