Alien: Romulus looks set to give us another busy weekend in theaters, with the sci-fi actioner in with a shot at opening with $50 million. Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us will be battling it out for second place, and the top three should deliver over $100 million between them.
Here are our predictions for this weekend…
Romulus is the ninth film in the Alien franchise—a series of films that has now been running for 45 years. We try to stick to films released in the past 10 years when compiling comps for franchises like this, although we will extend that back a bit further if it helps add more data. Even with that nudge, our model is working with a short list of films…
… but it turns out the prediction is looking fairly solid now we have some preview numbers…
$50 million is definitely on the cards, but even if Alien falls a bit short of that, it’s another impressive debut for the franchise.
Three other films are opening wide this weekend, and we have predictions for two of them…
Here’s what the model thinks that top 10 will look like.
There’s a decent chance It Ends With Us will finish second, with Deadpool & Wolverine likely to take a hit from being in more direct competition with Alien: Romulus.
One final note: we don’t have a prediction for Ryan’s World the Movie: Titan Universe Adventure. That’s simply because a film like this is really hard to predict. It might finish in the top 10, but we simply don’t have enough information on it to be sure one way or the other.
