Jimmy Kimmel’s live monologue interrupted by Ethan Hawke
In his latest live monologue, the renowned talk show host thanked the 400 signatories. This includes actors, directors, producers, and writers who signed the American Civil Liberties Union letter criticizing Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s suspension.
As Jimmy Kimmel took a big paper listing the signatories from Guillermo Rodriguez on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ethan Hawke walked on stage, surprising him. The Before Sunrise actor told the latter and the audience that he wasn’t supposed to be on stage yet. However, he had heard Kimmel talking about the letter of endorsement and wanted to let him know “man-to-man, face-to-face” that it was an honor signing it.
Kimmel thanked Hawke and began looking for his name, as the latter repeatedly insisted he signed it. However, the actor was joking and had not actually signed the letter. Thus, he distracted Kimmel, telling him to look at what was behind, and quickly put a signature over the “H” section. Eventually, he noticed and called Hawke out.
In response, the Dead Poets Society star humorously said he would have signed it, but thought that Kimmel was “done.” He noted he wasn’t the “type of guy” who would “bet on a three-legged horse with broken ankles.”
Ethan Hawke then called Jimmy Kimmel “the stand-up guy.” The latter responded that he didn’t hold Hawke’s thoughts against him. Additionally, Kimmel jokingly said he would let the audience decide if he would have the Oscar nominee on his show that night.
Earlier in the monologue, Kimmel addressed Donald Trump’s reaction to Jimmy Kimmel Live! being put back on air. On Truth Social, Trump slammed the ABC for bringing the show back, calling them “a true bunch of losers.”
In response to Trump’s comments, Jimmy Kimmel quipped, “Only Donald Trump would try to prove he wasn’t threatening ABC by threatening ABC.”
