Real Housewives of Salt Lake City worked better than anyone thought it might have, perhaps even for Andy Cohen. The population’s interest in Mormonism certainly helped. But Hulu decided to capitalize on that interest even more explicitly with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Kind of crazy to be living in a timeline with two exceptionally popular Utah-based reality shows (with more on the way). RHOSLC is a proven hit. It’s in the middle of Season 5, with plenty of new additions.
But Secret Lives is the new kid on the block, which was just greenlit for Season 2. One can’t help but imagine a small rivalry between the shows. Moreover, a viewer has to wonder what Bravo thinks of their competition, as it were. Where does Andy land on Secret Lives? Moreover, could he see a future with the Hulu stars on Bravo?
Andy Cohen wants to keep RHOSLC as is: “There are enough Mormons”
In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Andy answered all of fans’ burning questions about Bravo and Housewives. One question read, “Would you invite any of the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives onto Salt Lake City Housewives.” Andy answered the question by first admitting, “I’ve never seen The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.”
He continued, “I can’t really speculate on it. But would I invite one of those women to be a cast member on The Housewives of Salt Lake City? No. They’re on their show. We’re on our show. There are enough Mormons for everybody to go around.” A reasonable enough response. When the clip made its way to TikTok, fans were happy to share their thoughts on the answer.
Some viewers couldn’t help thinking Andy was pushing down some bitterness, given how well Secret Lives has done on Hulu. “Andy seems pretty defensive,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “This is giving Mariah Carey ‘I don’t know her’”. Other commenters hoped for a crossover between the two shows, even if Secret Lives cast members didn’t fully migrate to RHOSLC.
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City continues Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo, and Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming on Hulu.
