Once again, Johnny Bananas is in hot water over a problematic comment he made. If it feels like we’ve been down this road before, it’s because we have. A few months ago, The Challenge star got called out for using a gorilla emoji directed at Big Brother winner Taylor Hale. This time, he’s getting put on blast for what he said during Netflix’s Pop The Balloon Live.
The streamer recently put their spin on the viral Pop the Balloon dating show. For weeks, they teased this show like it would be must-see reality TV. Spoiler alert: it was not.

Hey morons, I was actually talking about the WHITE girl whose toes were hanging over her shoes who is literally dressed like a fucking tree! It’s wild how fast some people can twist a moment into a false narrative. There’s real racism out there, weaponizing fake outrage for… https://t.co/jryR1OICox pic.twitter.com/cmjgdKs8aj

At one point during the first episode, they had Bananas, who is 42 years old, come out to take a shot at the singles. However, he wound up making a tone-deaf comment toward one of the women when he seemingly compared her to a monkey.
“She’s got really good toes,” he said, calling out one of the lady’s feet. ”You’ve got really pretty toes, [and] you look like you sleep from a tree upside down.”
The camera panned to a Black woman in the lineup, and she looked confused. She was like, “Is he talking about me?” Meanwhile, the internet lit up with fans calling out Johnny.
“He never misses a chance to be racist,” wrote one viewer. Another fan added, “And just like clockwork another racist comment by the one and only Johnny Bananas.”
The comments continued, and in true Johnny fashion, he immediately clapped back. According to him, he wasn’t talking about the Black woman. Supposedly, he was talking about one of the other lovely women on stage.
“Hey morons, I was actually talking about the WHITE girl whose toes were hanging over her shoes, who is literally dressed like a f*cking tree,” Johnny wrote on Twitter/X. “It’s wild how fast some people can twist a moment into a false narrative.”
Of course, this whole situation is being exacerbated by the fact that he just got done dealing with a similar accusation with Taylor from Big Brother. In that instance, he blamed the questionable comment on a marketing agency that was running his social media accounts. This time, he has no one to blame but himself.
Pop the Balloon Live airs Thursday at 8/7c on Netflix.
