Move over, Kathryn Dennis; there is a new girl in Charleston. With Southern Charm Season 10 airing on Friday, viewers are excited to get to know one of the new faces, Molly O’Connell. The model’s predecessor, Kathryn, was one of the major stars until she departed after Season 8. The redhead was a controversial reality TV star who never minced her words, especially if she didn’t like a co-star. But now, with Molly joining the gang, I can’t help but note some similarities between the two women.
Kathryn Dennis and Molly O’Connell both liked Whitney Sudler Smith
As Bravo fans will recall, Whitney Sudler Smith and Kathryn hooked up multiple times during her stint on Southern Charm. Their affair occurred during Season 1 in 2014, right before she started dating Thomas Ravenel. Whitney was quite the cad and often denied he ever slept with the redhead but finally, in Season 3, admitted he did, in fact, have a night (or several) of passion with Kathryn. Fast forward to Season 6, and Kathryn once again shared with her friends that she once again had a one-night stand with Whitney.
At the time, she noted, “The first time Whitney and I hooked up, he said, ‘Don’t tell anyone,’ and I was really intimidated by him at the time, so I was like, ‘Okay, I really, really won’t,’” she says. “But at the end of the day, he’s the one that ended up telling everyone. I even lied to Thomas, and at that point, I was idiotically in love with him.” Newbie Molly also has been hit by Cupid’s arrow. The Season 10 premiere showed Molly quite possibly pining for the executive producer. The two have slept together, with Molly claiming Whitney once said she should be the mother of his children. However, the playboy is still not ready to commit. Sounds familiar, right?
Molly O’Connell and Kathryn Dennis are beautiful vixens
Undoubtedly, Southern Charm has some of the prettiest women on reality TV. But both Kathryn and Molly are at a whole new level. The redhead was never too proud to use her feminine wilds in hopes of taming Thomas. When she first debuted in Season 1, all the boys were drooling over her. Craig Conover, Shep Rose, Thomas, and Whitney all vied for her attention. Kathryn was your typical Southern Belle who knew how to present herself. She might have been a bit looney at times, but the girl knew how to dress. Molly is also stunning and has an air about her that can’t be ignored. Both women command any room they walk into.
Molly and Kathryn also have careers in common. As fans learned, Molly once worked on America’s Next Top Model. She also walked for fashion houses such as Prada and Vivienne Westwood and even shot for Vogue. Kathryn was also a small-market model. While on Southern Charm, she also worked at Gwynns, an expensive, local Charleston retail store. Kathryn and Molly both miss their time in front of the camera. Molly shared she has a thyroid condition that has caused her to gain 45 pounds in the last two years. For Kathryn, she once told The Daily Dish it was “a time I was most confident in myself.”
Kathryn Dennis and Molly O’Connell are both Charleston natives
Molly and Kathryn are proud Southern women who were both born and raised in Charleston. The mother of two comes from a long line of famous South Carolinians, including a direct connection to former Vice President John C. Calhoun. Molly also grew up in the Southern city after being adopted at 3 days old by two high-profile attorneys. Both women know their etiquette rules and which social engagements, like the Carolina Cup, are important to attend. But just because they know their Ps and Qs doesn’t mean both women don’t enjoy stirring the pot.
Kathryn always finds herself in hot water, especially during her fights with Thomas. She had no problem alienating herself if she felt attacked by the group. After getting a glimpse of the upcoming season of Southern Charm, Molly will be a troublemaker. And I am here for it! In the trailer, Molly is caught telling Madison LeCroy that she used to sext Craig. The former model is unfiltered and will bring some drama to the group.
Southern Charm returns to Bravo on Friday.
