ZombieCON Vol 1 – directed by Kyle Valle, written by Kyle Valle, Erin Aine & Manny Luke and starring Manny Luke, Erin Aine & Punkie Johnson
Synopsis: A group of cosplaying friends accidentally trigger a zombie apocalypse, and are forced to cross through an infected Los Angeles in order to save a loved one.
As if trying to snag convention tickets isn’t enough to stress your show-going exploits, just try dealing with a full-scale zombie invasion smack in the middle of it all – pretty sure no one will be complaining about stale refreshments and crowded bathrooms ever again!
The film focuses on a group of four friends consisting of Rocket (Luke), Javy, (Christian Casillas), Clair (Aine) and Punkie (Johnson) who all are at the top of their game when it comes to cosplay and reeling in the accolades. When one wish is made that all the bullies and neer-do-wells in the world could be turned into the undead, and after a mysterious stone is passed off by an even more mysterious stranger, the dearly departed are passing through the portal back to our world, and it’s up to the quartet of friends to fight for survival, as well as to ensure the safety of a loved one who is in danger across the city. As their journey through a zombie-infested Los Angeles commences, their bond as pals will face both certain and uncertain instances during the rescue-mission of sorts.
With a nerdly-nexus to strengthen their ties, the fab-four use all of their geek-powers of suggestion and action to create something rather formidable – sure, under the costumes they’re still the textbook socially-inept souls that so many have admitted to being, but donned in the garb of the uber-geek, they present a presence that appears to be impervious to the instabilities surrounding them. It makes the film level off in a way that can be dragged along by some slow pacing at times, however isn’t a damnable offense by any means. The entire presentation is farcical, but fun – loony but in the best way possible, but more than anything it takes a buddy-film and brings it to the end of the world, and as a horror fan, it turns quite a lot of minuses into pluses – make sure to give this one a spin when you have the time to cross paths.
The film lands on UK Digital services on April 27th and is currently available in the U.S on all streaming platforms.
