Savannah Guthrie Back on ‘Today’ as Hosts Return From Break

    What To Know

    • Savannah Guthrie returned to Today after a two-week break, joining several other hosts who also returned from time off.
    • During her absence, Guthrie attended the U.S. Open and appeared on NBC’s Password.
    • Guthrie took several weeks off from Today earlier this year to film NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show.

The Labor Day weekend marked the end of Savannah Guthrie‘s latest break from Today.

Guthrie returned to the anchor desk on the Tuesday, September 8, episode of Today. “Can’t wait to get outside and see all those fine folks who are celebrating so many wonderful things on this Tuesday morning. Happy they’re here. Happy you’re here, starting your Tuesday with us,” Craig Melvin told viewers at the top of the show’s 8 a.m. ET hour, before saying to Guthrie, “Happy you’re back.”

She replied, “I mean, c’mon. Let’s go! New school year!”

Guthrie was one of several hosts who returned to the show on Tuesday after recent time off, including Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones. Along with Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, and Dylan Dreyer were also in Studio 1A. Guthrie’s former co-anchor, Hoda Kotb, also appeared on Tuesday’s show to air her recent interview with Practical Magic 2 stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Guthrie, for her part, has been missing from the NBC morning show for the past two weeks. NBC News’ Kristen Welker and Weekend Today‘s Laura Jarrett filled in for the anchor amid her absence.

Guthrie did not share the reason for her latest Today break. Based on her comments at the top of Tuesday’s episode, it’s likely she took time off as her kids, Vale and Charley, began the new school year. (Guthrie shares her daughter and son with her husband, Michael Feldman.)

Guthrie also enjoyed some fun activities during her break, including attending a U.S. Open match with Feldman in New York City on August 25. The couple watched Roger Federer‘s exhibition matches against Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick.

Guthrie also appeared on the September 1 episode of NBC’s Password. The TV host and Jimmy Fallon competed with two contestants to guess the passwords and take home $25,000. The pair recently teamed up to film the upcoming NBC game show Wordle. Guthrie previously took several weeks off from Today to film the series, which Fallon will executive produce.

When the show was announced on Today in May, Savannah revealed that production on Wordle was pushed back after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared. Nancy was abducted from her Arizona home in February, and authorities have yet to name any suspects in the ongoing investigation.

“I just want to say a quick thank you to NBC and to Jimmy and his production company and The New York Times and Studio Universal because when everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you,’” Savannah gushed at the time. “And Hollywood is a really tough business, as you know, and I didn’t expect that. And I just want to say thank you. It means so much to me.”
