This month’s edition of The Numbers Business Report marks our first anniversary—a fitting moment to revisit the topic from our very first issue: the impact of PVOD and short theatrical windows on box office performance.
In this issue, we examine how popular release windows—18, 21, and 32 days after theatrical release—impact the box office. To establish a solid baseline, we analyzed all movies released in over 2,000 theaters since the start of 2021, categorizing them by release type (Premium Digital, Non-Premium Digital, etc.) and tracking their theatrical window durations.
While windows are certainly an important part of the theatrical equation, there’s a lot more involved in sustaining this business in the long term. Curious to dive into our findings? Subscribe here. If you’re in the theatrical business, this issue is an essential read.
