Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Infinity Castle dominated the box office for another weekend, pulling in $17.3 million and soaring past the $100 million mark by Sunday. The anime juggernaut held off newcomer Him, which opened with a solid $13.3 million debut. This weekend sees a wave of fresh releases hitting theaters, with two of them emerging as the widest openings, both aiming to dethrone Demon Slayer from its box office reign.
Making its North American debut in 3,634 cinemas this weekend is the action-thriller, One Battle After Another. The film centers on a former revolutionary who must confront an old enemy to rescue his kidnapped teenage daughter. Boasting a powerhouse cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, and Regina Hall, the film arrives with serious star power. One Battle After Another marks the latest release from a red-hot Warner Bros., which has already racked up an impressive $1.76 billion across 12 films in 2025, inching closer to the coveted $2 billion milestone. The film is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who last directed 2021’s Licorice Pizza.
Also opening in wide release this weekend is Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, a film based on the interactive Netflix television series of the same name. The movie follows Gabby (Laila Lockhart Kraner), who heads out on a whimsical road trip with her Grandma Gigi to the urban wonderland of Cat Francisco. But when Gabby’s dollhouse, her most prized possession, ends up in the hands of an eccentric cat lady named Vera, Gabby sets off on an adventure through the real world to get the Gabby Cats back together and save the dollhouse before it’s too late. Gabby’s Dollhouse is set to release in 3,500 theaters across North America.
Holding the smallest footprint of our newcomers this weekend is The Strangers: Chapter 2. Starting out in 2,690 locations, the film, despite its title, is the fourth feature in The Strangers franchise, which has acquired a solid $162.64 million in global box office since the namesake film debuted in May 2008. Directed by The Strangers: Chapter 1 helmer, Renny Harlin, the movie stars Madelaine Petsch as Maya, a survivor of The Strangers, who must do whatever it takes after The Strangers find out she is still alive.
Rounding out the top five this weekend is one of last weekend’s newcomers, as A Big Bold Beautiful Journey retains its opening count of 3,330 theaters. The other film making its sophomore effort this weekend is Him, also holding onto its debut count of 3,168 theaters. Lastly, still available to view in 3,083 movie houses is The Conjuring: Last Rites, with that film recently crossing the $400 million worldwide mark and currently holding $403.19M in global earnings.
Looking ahead to next weekend, we witness a bevy of newcomers make their way to theaters, including two films making their second go-around. These include the mega-blockbuster, Avatar: The Way of Water, set to return in approximately 2,000 venues, and Casper, expected to show up in approximately 950 theaters. Meanwhile, newcomer Anemone will be available in about 800 locations. Other films set to debut next weekend are Taylor Swift | The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, Good Boy, Perfect Blue, and The Smashing Machine. We will update those counts once we receive them.
