The Beach Boys have suddenly canceled all of their scheduled September shows without explanation. The concerts were set to mark their return to the road after the band canceled summer tour dates for 85-year-old frontman Mike Love to “recharge.”
As Rolling Stone points out, however, they canceled all four concerts on Wednesday, September 23rd — one day before the tour was set to resume. The ticket page for today’s return in West Springfield now throws an error, with a September 25th performance in Quakertown, Pennsylvania listed as being canceled due to “circumstances beyond the control of the Univest Performance Center.”

The Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina used identical language to explain the cancellation of both shows on September 27th, adding that there is “no date for rescheduling.”

As of publishing, The Beach Boys are scheduled to play their next concert on October 9th at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. The band has performed over 40 shows this year on their Pet Sounds 60th anniversary tour, but Love’s health has been a subject of concern.
The Beach Boys canceled a string of early June shows because Love was suffering from an unspecified illness. A Slate review of their May 30th concert in New Brunswick, New Jersey described Love as looking “sallow and enfeebled; legs stiff, arms flat by his side,” with “his once resonant tenor was reduced to a whisper, all warbled, strange, and barely there.”
Though the tour resumed on June 14th and continued through their latest show on July 18th, Love’s vocal issues persisted. In late July, The Beach Boys announced they were canceling their gigs from July 23rd through September 3rd.
“We can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember,” Love wrote in a statement at the time.
