90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6 is officially here! The first new couple introduced this season was James Solis and his wife Meitalia Tantri Solis. James first met Meitalia online, and he flew to Indonesia after only two months of dating to meet her. After getting engaged, Meitalia later moved to the US to marry James. However, Meitalia has grown bored of her life in America and now plans to return to Indonesia with James.
Ironically, James and Meitalia have quite a lot in common with an infamous 90 Day Fiancé couple. The newbies share many similarities with Gino Palazzolo and Jasmine Pineda, who have become quite controversial in the franchise. Will James and Meitalia be as despised by fans as Gino and Jasmine? Or will the new couple forge a more positive path on the show?
Meitalia is very emotional like Jasmine
Right off the bat, Meitalia opened up to viewers about her strong emotions. The Indonesian native admitted that everything was always very emotional for her, and claimed that she could be “one to one thousand”. After James broke the news that their dog Jojo couldn’t come to Indonesia right away, Meitalia didn’t hold back. While it was understandable that the news was upsetting, Meitalia seemed over the top with the way she sobbed at screamed at James.
This may remind fans of Jasmine, who is also known for her constant crying and drama. Jasmine immediately showed this side of herself to viewers when she first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days. After learning that Gino’s ex-wife had picked out the paint colors in his home, Jasmine lost it. Many viewers felt that Jasmine was overreacting after she broke down sobbing. Since then, Jasmine’s segments have been filled with many more tears.
After a while, Jasmine’s crying got old and at this point, it’s just frustrating to watch. The Other Way Season 6 trailer teases Meitalia breaking down once more, this time to her parents. As Meitalia cries about being a burden, her father asks her to kiss her mother’s feet for forgiveness. This looks like another dramatic scene for Meitalia, who seems to be following in Jasmine’s emotional footsteps.
James and Gino are both scared of their wives
While Meitalia’s personality strongly resembles Jasmine’s, James is quite similar to Gino as well. From the second they were introduced, it was clear that James was terrified of Meitalia. When James joked about what Meitalia would do to him if he ever cheated, he started to chuckle nervously. After the producer asked why he was laughing, James joked that it was because Meitalia was just “so scary”.
If this sounds familiar, it might be because Gino has had an almost identical experience. Gino has a more timid personality, which is often overpowered by Jasmine’s louder persona. During their time on the show, it’s become pretty obvious that Jasmine makes Gino nervous. When Jasmine gets mad and yells at Gino, the fear radiates on his face. It will be interesting to see if Meitalia will have the same effect on James as the season continues.
Meitalia and Jasmine both had a hard time adjusting in the US
Another striking similarity between Meitalia and Jasmine is their dislike of life in America. Meitalia explained that it was too difficult for her to adjust to the cold weather in Maine. The cold made her miss the warm temperatures of Indonesia and made her incredibly homesick. Furthermore, Meitalia had a negative experience with doctors in the US, which gave her another reason to return to Indonesia.
By the same token, Jasmine also complained about the cold when she arrived in Michigan. It was evident that Jasmine only came to America since it was Gino’s wish, as she seemed happier in Panama. While Jasmine is still in the US, it appears that the move ultimately tore her and Gino apart. Will Meitalia’s wish to return to Indonesia cause a rift between her and James? Or will the new couple find happiness abroad?
