Kimberly Guilfoyle resigns as US ambassador to Greece after the Trump administration requests her departure
Donald Trump’s administration said earlier on Tuesday that it had asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to step down. She faced intense criticism over allegations of improper and potentially illegal conduct before and during her tenure in Athens, Greece.
According to AP News, the former Fox host’s departure came after The Associated Press received indications over the weekend that it could happen. On Monday, Trump also expressed his displeasure with reports about her alleged conduct. However, Guilfoyle refuses to back down.
Guilfoyle wrote on X, “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity.”
I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.” She added.
For context, Kimberly Guilfoyle had been actively involved in Donald Trump’s political campaigns since 2019, spanning more than seven years through October 2026. Speaking about the matter, the US President said, “Well, we’re looking at it. We’re not happy.”
The scandal surrounding the former ambassador’s tenure in Athens, Greece, first began emerging in the final week of September 2026. Initial reports focused on her financial dealings and relationships with prominent Greek businessmen. Republican donor Eric Deters also went public with leaked chats involving Guilfoyle. He alleged that she asked him for money to pay a $100,000 credit card bill shortly before her Senate confirmation in July 2025.
