Meghan Markle was once mistaken for actress Megan Fox during a very crucial call. The mix-up is related to Mamma Mia, the Sussexes’ rescue Beagle. The Duke and the Duchess are parents to two dogs: Pula (black Labrador Retriever) and Mia (Beagle). Mia ended up being part of Harry and Meghan’s lives due to a name confusion, which ultimately turned out to be in favor of the Suits star.

Meghan Markle’s name mix-up with her namesake, Megan Fox, ultimately helped her with the adoption of her dog Mamma Mia. For those unversed, the Sussexes adopted Mia from the Beagle Freedom Project run by animal rights attorney Shannon Keith. Keith received a call from the Duchess of Sussex inquiring if she could adopt a dog, which led to a hilarious name mix-up.
The animal rights attorney told The Los Angeles Times in 2022: “The duchess called me personally.” Keith further explained how she almost mistook her for Megan Fox. The attorney described: “She calls on my cell with no Caller ID and says, ‘Hey Shannon, this is Meghan’.” We talked for 30 minutes, and I thought, ‘Is this Megan Fox?’” She explained that she eventually realized it was, in fact, the Duchess.
Keith also spoke about the sweet moment when Markle eventually adopted Mia. The attorney said: “The duchess is holding Mia and was like, ‘We’re adopting her.’ She was like, ‘No, we don’t want a Christmas puppy. … We want ones we can help who are older’.”
Today, Mia is an integral part of the Sussexes’ household and recently featured in Markle’s birthday video, wearing a birthday hat.
Interestingly, Markle was previously a dog mom to Bogart and Guy, who lived with her in Canada during her acting days. Harry claimed in his memoir that Bogart was “traumatised” due to the incessant harassment by the media at the actress’ Toronto home. The situation worsened to the extent that Markle’s neighbours in the UK had to adopt Bogart when she moved to Britain (via The Royal Observer).
