Michael Palin has suffered multiple fractures following a fall at his longtime family home. The actor and travel presenter revealed that the accident left him with three fractured ribs and a minor pelvic fracture.
The 83-year-old has now postponed his upcoming UK book tour and other planned appearances. Palin explained that recovery from the injuries could take time, particularly at his age.

Palin shared details about the accident in an Instagram post. He explained that he slipped in the family bathroom. He said he had used it for 58 years.
“My accident was quite unsensational, a slip in the family bathroom where I’ve walked for 58 years,” Palin wrote.
The Monty Python star said he fell heavily on his left side. The impact resulted in three fractured ribs and a minor pelvic fracture.
As per Page Six, Palin has postponed his UK tour for his latest travel book, Michael Palin in the Philippines. He has also postponed other planned events over the next few months while he recovers.
“The recovery of bone fractures takes a long time, especially when you’re 83,” Palin explained.
Despite the painful injuries, the comedian maintained his sense of humor. He called the accident a “comedy fall with no audience there to see it” and joked that he would “stick to fish slapping dances from now on,” referencing the famous Monty Python sketch.
Palin also apologized to those who had already worked on the planned tour. He thanked the NHS for what he described as its “incredible care” following the accident.
His latest book follows another of Palin’s international journeys through the Philippines. The project explores the country’s people, landscapes, culture, poverty, religion and political history.
Palin had planned to discuss those experiences with audiences across the UK during the accompanying live tour. Organizers have now postponed the dates rather than permanently cancelling them.
