Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be on track to beat one of James Cameron’s most beloved films at the box office. After breaking several box office records, the new Spider-Man film has grossed $2.32 billion globally. That puts it just under Titanic, which it is expected to pass this weekend.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spider-Man 4 is expected to gross between $22-27 million at the domestic box office this weekend. Following that, the film will have beaten Titanic to become the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. It has already collected more at the domestic box office than Cameron’s 1997 romantic tragedy.
What movies have still made more money than Spider-Man 4 at the worldwide box office?
At the time of writing, there are five films that have made more money than Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The list includes three films from Cameron, another Marvel film, and Ne Zha 2. The current order of highest-grossing films at the worldwide box office is Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Ne Zha 2, and Titanic.
The previous Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, currently sits at the ninth position on the list, having grossed over $1.9 billion. Brand New Day continues to bring in money, collecting an average of almost $4 million daily at the domestic box office this week.
Besides continuing the wall-crawler’s story, the film also sets up the future of the MCU. The film introduced audiences to Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, who will also appear in Marvel’s X-Men film in 2028. At the time of writing, Marvel Studios has not confirmed when and where Spider-Man will return in the MCU. Fans expect the hero to make an appearance in either Avengers: Doomsday this year or in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
