Tom Holland Picks a Clear Favorite To Be His Spider-Man Successor

Tom Holland Picks a Clear Favorite To Be His Spider-Man Successor

Tom Holland names the actor he believes would make the perfect Spider-Man after him. His pick is a British teen actor who recently drew attention for his acting talent. However, Holland isn’t stepping away from the suit just yet. The actor, who has played Peter Parker in the MCU since 2016, is set to return for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31.

Tom Holland thinks Owen Cooper can carry on the Spider-Man legacy

Tom Holland has put his faith in Owen Cooper to carry the Spider-Man mantle forward. For those unaware, Cooper is a 15-year-old British actor who broke out in Netflix’s Adolescence.

Holland recently sat down for an extensive Esquire interview where he reflected on the future and the day he’ll hang up the suit for good. Unlike earlier Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the Uncharted actor is preparing to headline his fourth solo film. Maguire carried the first three Sony movies, while Garfield’s run ended after two.

Holland told the outlet he’d like to remain part of the franchise behind the scenes as a producer. Although he admitted, “[It’s] pretty tough to get a producing credit on future movies.” Instead, he hopes to take on a mentor role for the next Spider-Man, similar to how Robert Downey Jr. supported him early in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking about who could take over the role next, the Cherry star said that Cooper could be a strong candidate to step into the Spider-Man suit. “Owen Cooper would be awesome,” the 30-year-old said. “Obviously, he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now.” The outlet also pointed out that Holland called the role a “great springboard” for a new actor to launch their career.

Tom Holland’s pick, however, isn’t random. Cooper has openly voiced his dream of playing the web-slinger, telling i-D magazine in March 2025: “I want to play Spider-Man.”

Later in the same Esquire conversation, Tom Holland finally confirmed that he and Zendaya secretly exchanged vows. The newly married couple will reunite on screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Before that, they feature together in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, releasing July 17.
