BREAKING: Horror fans are anxiously awaiting Evil Dead Wrath from director Francis Galluppi. There’s no bad Evil Dead movie (personal opinion), and tons of rumors are already swirling about Galluppi’s prequel. With the hotly anticipated project on the way, the filmmaker has set his sights on a new one…and it’s HUGE.
Deadline reports that Galluppi will next direct a new Constantine movie for DC! Hell. Yes.
As the outlet notes, the project is still very early in development. Still, this is exciting.
For the unfamiliar, John Constantine first appeared in The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 in 1985. Created by writer Alan Moore, the character is a British detective specializing in the occult.
Francis Lawrence directed a Constantine movie in 2005 starring Keanu Reeves. It was a mixed bag with critics, but it did well at the box office and is still considered to be underrated by many. Yet, we never saw more. There was also a TV show in 2014 that lasted one season. Galluppi’s project would be the first time Constantine has returned in a live-action film of his own since.
The move comes on the heels of DC’s Clayface and the studio’s effort to create more genre-focused comic book movies under James Gunn. While I had mixed feelings on Clayface, the film features loads of unsettling body horror and marked a step in the right direction for what DC aims to accomplish.
Often fighting demons and other horrors of the sort, Constantine would fit right into that mold. And the film has one hell of a director behind it.
Francis Galluppi released his debut feature, The Last Stop in Yuma County, back in 2023. A Tarantino-style bloodbath, it made such a massive impression that the director was brought on to direct Evil Dead Wrath not long after.
It’ll be a while before we see Galluppi’s Constantine movie…if it makes it to the finish line, that is. These things have a habit of being dead by dawn. Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen.
At least we won’t have to wait long for his next film. Evil Dead Wrath screams into theaters on April 7th via Warner Bros.
