Man is the warmest place to hide. While I don’t suggest actually crawling inside a body, Luke Skywalker style, I do suggest warming up with one of the items released today by horror apparel company, Gutter Garbs, in celebration of John Carpenter‘s The Thing anniversary!
Released back in 1982 on this day, The Thing wasn’t exactly a scream at the box office. It should have been, though. Today, the film is known as one of, if not the greatest, sci-fi horror films of all time. To celebrate, Gutter Garbs has released a massive officially licensed collection, as well as a bumper sticker you can slap on your car to declare your love of the undisputed classic.
Included in the collection are:
- Premium tees (classic Gutter Garbs, comfort colors, and shaka wear oversized)
- All-over print tee
- Front-and-back print tees
- Bumper sticker
Brandon Stecz and Jeff Fuchs created the designs.
Based on the story “Who Goes There?” by John W. Campbell Jr, The Thing stars Kurt Russell and follows a research team in Antarctica who discover a shape-shifting alien that can take the form of any one of them.
I’ll never forget watching the film for the first time in my dad’s basement, surround sound booming as Ennio Morricone‘s atmospheric score set the stage for an unforgettable tale of terror. The film stands as a masterpiece of paranoia and sci-fi horror that has gone unmatched to this day. I’m glad we have companies like Gutter Garbs out here continuing to pay tribute to it each year, all these decades later.
Check out a few of the items from the collection below, grab yours, and stay warm this winter. Well, warm-ish.
