Julia Stiles admitted a major regret over Save the Last Dance. The actress reflected on a 2000 interview from the set of the movie and revealed that she now regretted exaggerating her dance training.
Entertainment Tonight shared a video of Stiles’ interview from the set of Save the Last Dance.
Stiles reflected on the clip, saying, “I enjoy working so much that it’s just sort of natural that I would focus on it, on achieving success and working hard,” while covering her mouth in shock as her dance partner, Ezra Sosa, laughed.
“Pick your words, Julia!” Stiles said while reacting to her younger self. She added, “And actually, in this movie, the dance training that I had to do, I’ve put a lot of energy into. But it’s easy because it’s so much fun and I love to dance. Oh my god, what a little baby I was! I personally cringe. I’m glad that people liked the movie, but I was such a baby!”
She continued, “The thing is, I think I played up the dance training at the time doing interviews, and that was really wrong. That was really wrong. A huge part of me wanting to come on this show is to take what I learned from that experience. And just from a lifetime ago, and refresh.”
Earlier, as per Entertainment Weekly, Stiles said her association with the movie gave her “a bit of a disadvantage.”
She explained, “I stopped taking dance classes after that movie because people expected me to be a great dancer. I’m a home dancer. I love dancing at home. And part of my reason for coming on this show is to, like, find the joy in dance again, find my confidence in dance again.”
Stiles also clarified that body doubles performed the more complicated dance sequences in Save the Last Dance.
Stiles is currently competing on DWTS and revealed that she had not danced professionally since the movie.
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
