Prince Harry’s latest legal setback has put his relationship with Meghan Markle back in the spotlight. This time, however, the attention is on the Duchess of Sussex’s reported absence from his U.K. visit. According to a new report, Markle chose not to accompany Harry during one of his most difficult public moments. As a result, it has prompted fresh speculation about the couple’s dynamic. A royal commentator has even alleged that her decision reflects a pattern that has emerged over the years.

Source claims Meghan Markle tends to disappear when things get tough

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were expected to travel to Britain together for events linked to the Invictus Games. However, Markle reportedly canceled her plans just two days before Harry departed. Consequently, the Duke made the trip on his own, according to sources.

The alleged change came as Harry was facing a series of setbacks. His legal case against the publisher of the Daily Mail was dismissed. At the same time, his accommodation plans also reportedly became complicated after an attempt to stay at Buckingham Palace did not materialize.

Those developments have prompted fresh speculation about Markle’s absence. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield claimed she was not surprised by the decision (via RadarOnline). Speaking on “The Royal Exclusive” podcast, Schofield alleged that she expected Markle to stay away if Harry’s legal battle did not end in his favor. “I predicted that we might see her if he won, and we would not see her if he didn’t,” Schofield said.

The commentator then suggested the alleged pattern stretches back several years. “She does disappear when times are tough,” Schofield claimed. According to her, Harry has repeatedly faced public criticism without Markle appearing alongside him. She argued that his latest legal defeat is simply the newest example.

Schofield also pointed to Harry’s promotional tour for “Spare.” She alleged that Markle largely remained out of the spotlight during that time. Meanwhile, the Duke handled difficult interviews and widespread criticism surrounding his memoir. Likewise, she questioned why Markle was not publicly present after Harry’s televised BBC interview following his unsuccessful security appeal in 2025.

In contrast, Schofield argued that Harry has consistently defended his wife whenever she has faced public scrutiny. “He’s very protective of her,” the commentator claimed. She referenced interviews in which Harry spoke openly about Markle’s struggles after stepping back from royal duties. Schofield then alleged that Markle has not shown Harry the same level of public support during his own difficult moments.
