Jo Wood discussed the Rolling Stones’ future during an exclusive interview with The Sun. She said she could not imagine the band touring again. Wood specifically pointed to Richards’ reported reluctance.
“I can’t imagine it now [The Stones touring again],” Wood said. She then added, “I know that Keith doesn’t really want a tour.” Wood said Richards would need considerable encouragement to return.
The comments follow the band’s decision to cancel planned touring dates this year. According to the report, Richards could not commit to the demanding schedule. The canceled plans had included shows across the UK and Europe.
Wood also addressed what could happen to the band without Richards. She argued that Richards and Mick Jagger remain central to the group’s identity. “They’re called the Glimmer Twins, aren’t they,” she said.
Wood continued, “without one or the other, there is no Stones.” Her comments suggest she sees the songwriting partnership as fundamental. Richards and Jagger have worked together throughout the band’s long career.
The Rolling Stones have continued releasing music despite major lineup changes. Charlie Watts died in 2021 at age 80. The band subsequently brought in drummer Steve Jordan.
Wood offered an alternative for the band’s future. She suggested following ABBA’s model with an avatar-based stage production. She said, “No, what they should do is what ABBA did with the AI thing.”
Wood praised ABBA’s Voyage production after seeing the show herself. “It was like they were on stage,” she said. She added that Mick Jagger would likely embrace such technology.
Meanwhile, the Rolling Stones have other projects underway beyond touring. The band reportedly signed a major deal for a new film. The project will focus on the group’s story and history.
